The cycle of human resource management process starts with the recruitment sub process. It is defined as the process of choosing the best of all candidates that have applied for an advertised job, according to the requirements of the respective job.
In this process, the company for which the employees have to be hired chooses an advertisement media. It finalizes the analysis of jobs done in the organizations, finds out the job vacancies and advertises them through outsourcing the advertisement process. Candidates start piling up their CV’s through email, fax and post, and wait for the short listing. This can be done either by a manual process or through the help of recruitment software.
After that the process of selection starts. It has a number of different steps. The candidates short-listed are called in for a test/interview session. These interviews can be panel, face-to-face, telephonic or even through online software like Skype etc. The tests however, are held as written, fitness, team based, etc anywhere at the organization or at a test center. These tests, like the recruitment software, can be taken on computers as well.
After that the candidates selected are run through the basic training requirement, orientation sessions, and the probation period. Their performance appraising period starts as soon as they get their objectives done by planning by them and by their supervisors.
At the end of the term, they are appraised by different methods. They get a form known as the performance appraisal form on which their performance is measured. With regards to the assigned goals, they are matched as to how much they achieved with different scales and ranking criteria.
The whole process of performance indicating and measurement is known as the performance management system. It is based on manual cum machinery-based processes nowadays.
At the end of it, the employee is eligible for raises, promotions etc on his performance basis. This is how the cycle repeats itself repeatedly. For every employee there are different objectives, and different hierarchies according to his job descriptions.
There are many types of appraisals done in any company with regards to its requirements:
- Management by objective
- Scale based
- Ratio based
- 360 degrees etc
They help in measuring the performance of employees according to the set scales, objectives, competencies. After this process, trainings if needed are given to the respective employees, being on the job and off the job trainings.
